Tom O'Malley, a 44-year-old widower from Carraroe, sent sexually explicit messages to a 16-year-old girl via Facebook Messenger on 10 November 2018. Gardaí received a report from the girl five days after the offence. He pleaded guilty to a single count of using information and communication technology to facilitate the sexual exploitation of a child in July 2020. Judge Rory McCabe finalised his sentence at Galway Circuit Court in December 2021, imposing a two-year sentence suspended in its entirety for two years.
