Garda Thomas Flavin, a man based at Rathkeale Garda Station in County Limerick, was accused of entering false motor insurance details on the PULSE system between November 2016 and September 2018 to frustrate prosecutions for driving without insurance. Following a GNBCI investigation, his home was searched and he was suspended in October 2018, and he was sent forward for trial on 22 counts in September 2021. His trial at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court before Judge Colin Daly began on 27 May 2025 and lasted eight days. On 6 June 2025, a jury returned unanimous not guilty verdicts on 17 counts after the judge directed acquittal on the remaining five, clearing Flavin of all charges.
