latest first- Murder investigation opened into motorcyclist's death in Carlow Murder (under investigation) · Co. Carlow
Tom Connors, a 35-year-old man from Bunclody, Co Wexford, was struck by a car while riding his motorcycle on a local road between Rathoe and Ballon at Sandbrook, Co Carlow, at around 10.30pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and the car, a dark grey Volkswagen Passat CC with Northern Irish registration plates, was found burnt out with its occupants having fled. Connors had absconded from Loughan House open prison in Co Cavan four days earlier, where he was serving a three-year sentence for the unlawful taking of a vehicle. Gardaí launched a murder investigation on 10 May 2024 following a post-mortem and technical examinations, believing there is a substantial chance the victim was deliberately killed, and are appealing for witnesses and for the car and a black Honda CBR motorcycle to be traced.
