latest first- Assault on Garda struck out after €500 payment in Doonbeg Assault (on a Garda) · Co. Clare
On the night of 15 August 2022, 63-year-old Polish man Prezemyslaw (Piotr) Katulski struck off-duty Garda Sergeant Tim Ryan with his right fist on the left side of his face outside a pub in Doonbeg village, west Clare, after being drunk and trying to drive 7.5 miles home to Kilrush. Katulski swore and declared he was from Ukraine and would fight everyone, and three Gardaí were required to handcuff him. At Kilrush District Court on 21 February 2023, Katulski pleaded guilty before Judge Mary Larkin, who struck the matter out after he paid €500 to the Garda Benevolent Fund. The judge took into account his lack of previous convictions, his age of 63, and his work history in Ireland.
