On 4 August 2022, a Cessna 182 piloted by Polish man Michal Luczak, 45, landed at Abbeyshrule Aerodrome, Co Longford, after flying from Dieppe, France, carrying 120kg of cocaine worth €8.4m. Gardaí intercepted man Tim Gilchrist, 56, in a car in the Lough Owel area, Co Westmeath, and recovered the cocaine from the boot. Gilchrist pleaded guilty to possession and importation and was sentenced to 11 and a half years in July 2024. Luczak pleaded not guilty but was found guilty by a jury at Mullingar Circuit Court in October 2025. His sentencing has been adjourned on five occasions and remains pending as of October 2026.

On 4 August 2022, a Cessna aircraft landed at Abbeyshrule Aerodrome, Co Longford, with 120kg of cocaine worth €8.4 million, which was recovered from a car intercepted at Lough Owel, Co Westmeath. Pilot Michal Luczak, 44, a Polish national formerly of Naas, Co Kildare, and Tim Gilchrist Jr, 54, a man from Newrath, Co Waterford, were arrested and charged with possession of cocaine for sale or supply. Gilchrist pleaded guilty at Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court in March 2024 and was sentenced to 11 years in prison. Luczak was convicted by a jury at Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court in October 2025 after a three-week trial, and his sentencing has been adjourned to 8 October 2026.
