latest first- Man to be retried for Limerick stabbing Assault causing serious harm · Co. Limerick
Jean Louise Fancony, a 39-year-old French man, stabbed his flatmate Tim Crowley, a 33-year-old Irish man, several times with a large bread knife at Riverpoint Apartments, Bishop's Quay, Limerick City, on 22 July 2019 while experiencing an acute psychotic episode. Fancony was arrested on the street and pleaded not guilty, claiming self-defence. He was convicted by a jury in November 2020 of assault causing serious harm and sentenced to seven and a half years in prison by Judge Tom O'Donnell. At the Court of Appeal on 12 January 2023, his counsel argued a notebook entry recording his alleged admission was not read back to him or signed, and the court reserved judgment. Limerick Circuit Court has since ordered a retrial, and Fancony is seeking to change his legal team.
