  On the night of 22 February 2020 at Atlantic Haven B&B in Moneygold, Mount Temple, Co Sligo, Thomas Wymbs (67), the proprietor, invited a European woman in her 20s, who was the only guest, to join him for a drink. In February 2024, a jury at the Central Criminal Court found him guilty of one count of raping her between 22 and 23 February 2020, though he had claimed the sexual activity was consensual. On 31 July 2024, Ms Justice Mary Ellen Ring sentenced him to 7½ years with the final 18 months suspended, backdated to 22 July 2024 for time in custody, so he was jailed for six years.
