Thomas Shinnick, a 26-year-old man from Buttevant, Co Cork, was arrested at Crawford Art Gallery in Cork city on 10 November 2022 after he allegedly threw soup at George Atkinson's Anatomical Study in the Modern Gallery. He was charged at Cork District Court and the matter was adjourned, before he pleaded guilty in June 2023 to causing criminal damage to the painting and to being in possession of a screwdriver on the same occasion.
