Thomas Ryan, a man aged 39 (one report gives 40) of Wood View, Boulick, Gortnahoe, Thurles, Co Tipperary, is accused of possessing cocaine for sale or supply at Kilnaseer, Rathdowney, Co Laois, on 28 October 2025, in a seizure of 116kg of suspected cocaine valued at about €8.1 million. Gardaí arrested him on 29 October 2025 at Abbeyleix Garda Station, and he was charged and appeared before Portlaoise District Court on 30 October, where he was remanded to Cloverhill Prison. Bail was refused on 4 November, he later secured High Court bail on 16 December, and in January the case was adjourned to 13 April 2026 for DPP directions. The latest development, reported on 18 July 2026, is that the DPP directed he be sent forward to the Portlaoise Circuit Court sittings on 28 July at 10am, and the judge issued an alibi warning.
