Eileen Costello O'Shaughnessy, a 47-year-old woman and taxi driver from Corofin, was murdered on the night of 30 November 1997 after her last contact with her taxi base at 8pm. Her body was found the following morning at Tinkers Lane, Knockdoemore, just off the N17, and she had been beaten with her car radio and strangled with its flex. Thomas Murray, a 59-year-old man serving a life sentence for two other murders, is the main focus of the investigation but was never charged after an associate gave him an alibi. Gardaí renewed their appeal for information on the 25th anniversary in November 2022, and the case remains unsolved.
