  Thomas McGuinness (37) pleaded guilty to assault causing harm over an incident at Mullaharlin Park, Dundalk, in the early hours of 18 December 2016, after a row over comments the victim made about the defendant's girlfriend. The victim fell, lost consciousness and was treated for a forehead cut that left scarring. The judge at Dundalk Circuit Court adjourned the case for a Probation Service report before ordering McGuinness to complete 180 hours of community service within 12 months, in lieu of a custodial sentence. A jail term will be imposed if he fails to comply, and the sentence was reported on 22 May 2024.

  On 8 February 2021, Thomas McGuinness, a 33-year-old man from Dundalk, attempted to overtake vehicles on the Dundalk/Greenore Road (R173) when a Volkswagen Passat travelling in the opposite direction pulled out, forcing the driver of an unmarked garda patrol car to take evasive action to avoid a collision. No accident occurred. McGuinness was charged with dangerous driving. At his first court appearance in March 2022, Judge Eirinn McKiernan adjourned the case to 14 September 2022 for a probation report and a driving awareness course, indicating she would consider reducing the charge.
