  On 7 July 2024 at about 3.30pm, a man was found covered in vomit and urine outside Brew Cafe on the Dublin Road in Portlaoise, Laois. Thomas McGarry (65), of Athy, Kildare, pleaded guilty to being intoxicated and engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour there, as reported on 30 November 2024. The judge said the offence was quite serious given the time of day and that she was minded to order a probation report. The case was put back to Portlaoise District Court on 24 February for a probation report, which is the latest development.
