On January 28, 2024, gardaí tried to stop a vehicle on College Road, Kilkenny, and the driver, Thomas James Dillon, failed to stop, which led to a pursuit. Dillon was apprehended near his home after gardaí blocked his way, and a urine test at Kilkenny Garda Station showed he was over the alcohol limit; he was arrested and charged with dangerous driving. On June 3, 2025, at Kilkenny District Court, Dillon pleaded guilty and was convicted of drink driving and dangerous driving. Judge Geraldine Carthy fined him €500 for drink driving with a three-year disqualification and €600 for dangerous driving with a two-year disqualification, which is the latest development in the case.
