On 27 July 2021, Thomas Harvey, 42, and Daniel Kavanagh, 29, both men, stole 60kg of chicken, beef and lamb worth €2,000 from the store room of Captain Americas on Grafton Street, Dublin. Harvey climbed a fire escape ladder into the store room and threw the meat down to Kavanagh, who was below. They hailed a taxi to a hotel on the far side of the city and tried to sell the meat, which was later sold to a mother-of-eight for €100. Both men pleaded guilty to trespass and theft at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. On 9 February 2023, Judge Martin Nolan sentenced both to 18 months in prison, suspended in full.
