• Appeal dismissed in Limerick rape and sexual abuse case Rape and sexual abuse · Co. Limerick

Graham Daly, a 40-year-old Irish man and teacher from Clonree, County Tipperary, was found guilty by a jury in December 2021 of seven counts of raping and sexually abusing his younger brother Thomas Daly at their family home in Limerick between January 1998 and December 2002. Thomas, who was 10 when the abuse began, kept it secret for 18 years before telling his father in 2015 and going to gardaí in early 2016. Daly was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison in January 2022, treated as a juvenile because the abuse ended around his 18th birthday. The Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal against conviction in November 2023 and his appeal against the severity of the sentence in January 2024, with Daly continuing to maintain his innocence.
