latest first- Man sentenced for endangerment after striking a garda in Limerick Endangerment (striking a Garda) · Co. Limerick
On 10 February 2025, a silver Audi TT with false licence plates struck Detective Garda Shane O'Neill during an attempt at a controlled stop in the Brú na Gruadán estate, Castletroy, County Limerick, and then reversed toward him as he lay injured on the ground. Thomas Connors, 40, was driving the car with an accomplice in the front passenger seat, and the pair fled the scene on the wrong side of the road. Gardaí appealed for witnesses and footage in the days following the incident. Connors later pleaded guilty to one count of endangerment and one count of failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision, and on 22 December 2025 was sentenced at Limerick Circuit Court to four and a half years in prison, with the final six months suspended, a 12-month probation supervision order, and a ten-year driving ban.
