  • Two US veterans fined for interfering with operation of Shannon Airport Interfering with the operation of an airport; trespass; criminal damage · Co. Clare

Ken Mayers, 85, and Tarak Kauff, 80, both American former US military veterans, cut a hole in the perimeter fence at Shannon Airport in County Clare on 17 March 2019 and walked onto a taxiway during an anti-war protest, causing the airport to close for about 40 minutes. They were charged with criminal damage, trespass, and interfering with the operation of the airport, and pleaded not guilty. At their trial at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in April and May 2022, a jury acquitted them of criminal damage and trespass but returned a 10-to-2 majority guilty verdict on the charge of interfering with the operation of the airport. On 4 May 2022, Judge Patricia Ryan fined each man €5,000.
