Tarak El-Hemissi (45), a French national, was found walking along the M50 and arrested under the Mental Health Act, then taken to a Dublin hospital for assessment. In autumn 2025, while waiting for a psychiatric assessment there, he sexually assaulted a woman who was waiting in a bed for a test. He has been in custody since his arrest. On 27 June 2026 he pleaded guilty to sexual assault at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, and the judge adjourned the case for pre-sentence reports, so no sentence has been imposed.
