John Gibson, a 28-year-old father of two and convicted drug dealer, was shot dead by gunmen from a rival gang in a carpark at Citywest Shopping Centre, Dublin, on 18 September 2017 as part of a feud between two Clondalkin criminal gangs. Matthew Bell, a 25-year-old man from Cookstown, Dublin, drove the gunmen away from a burning getaway car using his mother's black Opel Corsa. Bell was arrested and pleaded guilty to participating in or contributing to the murder, intending to facilitate the activities of a criminal organisation. On 14 March 2022, Mr Justice Paul McDermott at the Central Criminal Court sentenced Bell to nine years and three months' imprisonment with the final 15 months suspended.
