A Lithuanian man, Vytautas Siaulys, 44, was found not guilty of assault causing harm and false imprisonment in Waterford city on 14 February 2022. He was charged after Tammy Dowdall, a woman who was 19 at the time, alleged she was beaten and held in a basement on Henrietta Street on 23-24 June 2019 after going there to buy cannabis. The defence argued that Dowdall and gardaí had misidentified the defendant and that the house was kept by a man named Viktor. The jury at the Circuit Criminal Court acquitted Siaulys on both counts.
