On 28 March 2025, Tamara Piliuk, a 71-year-old optometrist from Ukraine, was accused of putting several items into a carrier bag and paying for only one at Dunnes Stores in Fort Lynn Shopping Centre, Letterkenny, County Donegal. Security staff apprehended her after she had passed all points of payment, and gardaí arrested her, after which she was charged with theft of groceries valued at €17.05. At Letterkenny District Court she pleaded guilty with the help of a translator, and Judge Cunningham applied the Probation Act, giving her one opportunity. Donegal Live reported the outcome on 10 June 2025.
