Suleman Mazhar, a 43-year-old man (44 in one report) who came to Ireland from Pakistan in 2002, lived at Douglas, Cork, at the time of offences between June 2020 and March 2022. He offered malware, ransomware, false bank accounts and credit cards through websites, and held cryptocurrency in a Coinbase account that he knew was proceeds of crime. Gardaí and the FBI investigated from 2021, he was arrested in May 2022, and he pleaded guilty at Cork Circuit Criminal Court to two counts, with sentencing adjourned to 9 May 2025. On 9 May 2025 Judge Helen Boyle jailed him for two years on each count, concurrent and backdated to when he first entered custody, and the cryptocurrency, now worth €200,000, was forfeited to the State.
