Steven Olofsson, a 60-year-old Swedish national based in Cyprus, is accused of handling or possessing €263,860 in cash alleged to be the proceeds of criminal conduct, while reckless as to whether the money derived from criminal activity. The charge relates to 11 January 2023, when he allegedly tried to leave Dublin Airport's Terminal 1 with the cash hours after flying into the State. He surrendered on foot of a European Arrest Warrant, spent 56 days on remand in Prague before transfer to Ireland, and first appeared before Dublin District Court on 18 February 2026. On 19 February 2026 he was sent forward for trial to Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 5 March 2026, and the judge indicated bail of €7,000 in cash in lieu of a surety once conditions are met, so he remains in custody with consent to bail.
