On 29 September 2022, at 3.10am, Steven Breen, 37, of No Fixed Abode, arrived at Portlaoise Garda Station in Laois in an intoxicated state and tried to sleep on the floor of the public office. When gardaí woke him, he became abusive towards them. He pleaded guilty to the offence at Portlaoise District Court, appearing via video link, and a charge of public intoxication was taken into account. The latest development is that Judge Andrew Cody sentenced him to one month in prison, as reported in October 2023.
