  A man allegedly struck a woman in her early 40s several times with a plank before stealing her handbag at Tower Hill, Portlaoise, on 8 November 2025. Stephen Lyons (29), of Arlington Estate, Portarlington, was charged with robbing a handbag and its contents worth €80 and with further alleged thefts from shops in Portlaoise on the same day. At a bail hearing at Portlaoise District Court, gardaí objected to bail and sought a remand in custody, but the judge remanded him in custody with consent to bail on conditions. The case was adjourned to Portlaoise District Court on 8 December.
