  On 31 December 2022, Diarmuid Connolly, 36, from Collinswood in Beaumont, Dublin, punched Stephen Grimes and Stephen Kiely and dragged Kiely along the ground in an unprovoked attack on Shantalla Road in Santry during New Year's Eve celebrations. Connolly was summonsed and first appeared at Dublin District Court in February 2024, and the case was adjourned to 30 May. On 30 May 2024, he pleaded guilty before Judge Michele Finan and was ordered to pay €2,000 compensation. At sentencing on 27 June 2024, the Probation Act was applied, sparing Connolly a custodial sentence and a criminal conviction.
