Cases
latest first- High Court denies bail to Dublin man charged with firearm possession Drug possession · Co. Dublin
Stephen Ennis, a 36-year-old man from Crumlin, Dublin 12, was arrested at his home on 31 July 2026 after allegedly sending an anonymous WhatsApp message containing a photograph of a loaded pistol to his ex-partner on 30 July. Gardaí seized a .22-calibre Makarov pistol with five rounds of ammunition and a Samsung phone during a search under warrant, part of an operation targeting organised crime groups. Ennis was charged with possession of a firearm in suspicious circumstances and appeared before the Criminal Courts of Justice on 3 August, where bail was denied and he was remanded in custody. On 5 August, a High Court judge dismissed his habeas corpus application for bail after his solicitor refused to represent him in the District Court over a legal aid fees dispute.
In court, 2 Aug 2026Accused · 2 reports - Man sentenced on appeal for assaulting doctor at Dublin hospital Assault (assaulting a person providing medical care) · Co. Dublin
On 7 March 2020, Stephen Ennis, 32, stabbed a man three times in the back with a needle taken from his own arm at St James' Hospital, Dublin, after being admitted following a seizure outside Pearse Street Garda Station. The doctor, who had been training to become an emergency medicine consultant, was unaware of the stabs until told by a colleague and has since opted for a career in general practice. Ennis pleaded guilty to assaulting a person providing medical care in October 2020 and received a one-year sentence. The DPP appealed the sentence as unduly lenient, and in May 2022 the Court of Appeal quashed the original term and imposed a three-year sentence, reduced from a four-year headline by one year for Ennis's drug addiction efforts, with the final six months suspended.
