A 28-year-old South American au pair was tied up with cables from her own backpack and imprisoned in a hot press during a burglary at the home of the family she worked for in Drogheda, Co Louth, on April 29, 2019. Stephen Daly, 29, pleaded guilty to burglary, false imprisonment and theft at Trim Circuit Criminal Court in November 2019. He was sentenced in May 2020 to nine years for false imprisonment, with the final year suspended for 12 months, and seven years for burglary to run concurrently. The Court of Appeal dismissed his appeal in November 2021, finding no error in the sentencing.
