Stephen Brennan (31), of Lisryan, Strokestown, Co Roscommon, was charged with theft of a fillet of beef and a round roast of beef at Davis SuperValu, Killashee Road, Longford, on November 6 and 12, 2023. Gardaí said that on both occasions he allegedly scanned the beef as bananas at the self-service till, with the items valued at €10.49 and €13.99. The case was reported after a sitting of Longford District Court in December 2023, where the defence said he had been in foster care most of his life, had recently been homeless and could not pay for the beef. The case was adjourned to May 7, 2024.
