    In October 2022, cannabis worth €1.17 million was seized in Kilkenny City after being hidden among a shipment of biscuits. Gardaí arrested Slavomir Bubuscak, a Slovakian man who had an address in Kilkenny at the time, after locating the van he was driving. A jury convicted him at Kilkenny Circuit Court in December 2025 of having cannabis for sale and supply. At a sentencing hearing before Judge Cormac Quinn, reported on 21 July 2026, he was sentenced to eight years in prison, with the final 12 months suspended.
