  Gardaí stopped a car on the Dublin Road in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, at about 5.30pm and seized €62,000 in cash and about €20,000 of suspected cannabis herb, and the male occupant was arrested and detained. Sipiso Mpobole, a 37-year-old man from Willow Park, Athlone, Co Westmeath, was arrested on the Monday night and charged with unlawful possession of cannabis and possession of cash believed to be proceeds of criminal conduct. He appeared before Judge Bernadette Owens at Longford District Court on Tuesday 5 March 2024 and made no response to the charges. He was remanded on bail to Mullingar District Court on 20 April 2024, and the investigation is ongoing.
