latest first- Omeath garda murder under GSOC investigation Murder; shooting · Co. Louth
On 11 October 2015, Adrian Crevan Mackin, a 25-year-old man, shot and killed Garda Tony Golden, a 36-year-old man, and shot his former partner Siobhán Phillips, a woman, four times at their shared house in Omeath, Co. Louth, before taking his own life. Golden was an unarmed, uniformed officer on a domestic violence callout at the time. Mackin was on bail for IRA membership and possession of two handguns and bomb-making components. The GSOC began investigating in 2016 and in 2021 published an interim report finding Mackin had breached his bail conditions at least ten times and that his firearms history was absent from Garda records. The GSOC investigation remains open, with a six-year delay in publishing the final report due to an alleged lack of Garda co-operation.
