Simon Maguire of Woodland Park, Dundalk was charged with committing the offence. On 28 May 2025, Dundalk District Court, before Judge Stephanie Coggans, placed him under a six-month Probation Service supervision bond.

Simon Maguire, a 53-year-old man with addresses in Dundalk, was sentenced to 14 months' imprisonment at Dundalk District Court in February 2023. He pleaded guilty to a series of thefts and burglaries committed in 2022, including stealing money from St. Joseph's Redemptorist Church and St. Patrick's Church, and burgling premises at Habitat, Tesco, Londis, and Costa in Dundalk. He had 105 previous convictions and had been in custody since 11 January 2023 after being caught following a foot chase in Muirhevnamor. Four-month consecutive jail terms were imposed for the Costa and Francis Street burglaries, with other charges taken into consideration.
