Robert Benn, a 33-year-old man from Garryowen, Limerick, entered the Red Hen pub on Patrick Street through a fire exit on 20 January 2025 at 2:45pm while it was closed to the public and a cleaner, Silvia Suarez, was working there. CCTV showed him taking a cardholder from her jacket, and he later used a gift card from it at a jeweller's. Benn was arrested two days later and pleaded guilty to one count of burglary. At Limerick Circuit Court, the judge imposed a headline sentence of four years, reduced by 25% for his early guilty plea to three years' imprisonment, with the final year suspended for three years on conditions.
