latest first- Reckless driving case on trial in Dublin over 2016 Coolock crash Road traffic accident (reckless driving) · Co. Dublin
On the morning of 20 October 2016, doctor Shereen El Mashad drove her car at speed through a red light in Coolock, Dublin, and the wing mirror struck 14-year-old Ashleigh Carroll, who was crossing a public footpath near Oscar Traynor Road, causing her to spin, fall and hit her head, leaving her brain-damaged. El Mashad admits to reckless driving, going through a red light, driving at speed and driving in a bus lane, but her defence claimed Carroll ran across the road and created a public nuisance. Carroll, now 19 and from Glasnevin, has sued El Mashad in the High Court seeking aggravated damages, and an arrest warrant exists for the doctor, who has returned to Egypt. The case is before Ms Justice Leonie Reynolds and continues on Friday.
