latest first- Man jailed for unprovoked assault on Grafton Street, Dublin Assault · Co. Dublin
Shane White, a man, was sitting outside a Burger King on Grafton Street, Dublin, at around 1am on 19 July 2019 when he was approached by two men, one of whom was Daryl Cassells, 27, a man of no fixed abode. Cassells punched White in the head and kicked him while he was lying on the ground, causing a brain bleed, a skull fracture, and a fractured eye socket, and White subsequently developed epilepsy. Cassells, who was on bail at the time, was charged with assault after Garda Robert Mahony obtained CCTV footage and tracked his movements. In June 2022, Judge Pauline Codd sentenced Cassells to four years in prison, six months suspended.
