On 4 June 2023, a semi-automatic gun was fired from a car at a house on Hyde Road in Limerick City where children were present, and a threat to kill was made at O'Malley Park, Southill. Shane O'Donoghue, a man aged 26, was a passenger in the car driven by Kieran Fogarty, a person aged 21. No arrests were made initially, and gardaí issued witness appeals. O'Donoghue pleaded guilty to the firearm charge, the threat to kill, and two counts of criminal damage at Limerick Circuit Criminal Court in April 2025. He was sentenced in December 2025 to ten years, with the final two years suspended.
