Shane McCarthy, 31, of Shanballa, Lahinch Rd, Ennis, County Clare, was found by a Garda in a state of undress in his parked car at Magowna, Inch, on 30 March 2025, where he snorted a small packet of cocaine in the officer's presence. His blood reading showed 3,346 ng/ml of Benzoylecgonine, 66 times the legal driving limit. He was originally jailed for four months at Ennis District Court in February 2026 and remained on bail pending an appeal against the severity of the sentence. At Ennis Circuit Court, Judge Francis Comerford reduced the term to three months, and McCarthy did not appeal a four-year driving ban.

Shane McCarthy, 31, an Ennis man in Clare, has pleaded guilty to offensive sexual conduct offences, including sending lewd images of himself to his then addiction counsellor and masturbating in public places in Ennis. The offences include an August incident, a masturbation incident at Ballyalla Lake on 18 December and an incident at Cahercalla Hospital on 15 February this year, and the Ballyalla and Cahercalla offences were committed while he was on bail. He also pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine on 31 August of last year at Ennis Garda Station. A court report published on 29 September this year says he pleaded guilty to all matters before Ennis District Court, and the judge remanded him on continuing bail to 4 November for finalisation, when sentencing is due and a Probation Service report has been requested.

Ennis man Shane McCarthy pleaded guilty at Ennis District Court to sending four lewd images of himself to his addiction counsellor on 5 May 2025, to masturbating in a public place at Silvergrove, Ballybeg, Ennis, on 31 August 2025, and to possessing cocaine at Ennis Garda Station on the same day. He is also charged with masturbating in a public place at Ballyalla Lake on 18 December 2025. The defence said a serious cocaine addiction caused the behaviour, and a psychologist's report is available to the court. The judge remanded him on continuing bail to reappear on 6 May 2026, with gardaí having agreed to change his bail so he can see his children on Saturdays, and he is due to enter a treatment centre on 2 June 2026 while the defence seeks to adjourn final sentencing until after the programme.
