Shane Knott, aged 37, was found dead in the back garden of a house at Eustace Demesne, Naas, Co Kildare, on 14 April 2024. Pádraig Delaney, aged 44, was arrested the following day and charged with Knott's murder, claiming he struck him in the head with a claw hammer in self-defence. A jury at the Central Criminal Court, sitting in Tullamore, found Delaney guilty of murder, rejecting the self-defence claim. He was sentenced to life imprisonment by Mr Justice Paul Burns in May 2025.
