latest first- Gym owner Shane Flynn can resume work on release after sexual assault conviction in Mullingar Sexual assault · Co. Westmeath
Shane Flynn, a 35-year-old man who owned and ran a gym in Mullingar, Co Westmeath, was charged with sexually assaulting a woman in her mid-20s in January 2021 and with secretly filming 35 women topless during massages at his gym from July 2018 until August 2020. He admitted the covert recording charge and denied the assault charge, and a jury at Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court convicted him of sexual assault after a six-day trial, dated to October 2024 in one source and November in another. On 20 January 2025 he was sentenced to two years and four months in total and ordered to pay the victim €5,000. The latest development, reported on 4 February 2025, is that he can resume the same work on release, which Rape Crisis Ireland said reflects gaps in the sex offenders register and in regulation.
