Between May and June 2016, Shane Byrne, a 38-year-old man from Riversdale Drive, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, sent images of child abuse over a messaging service to a woman he was seeing at the time. The woman contacted gardaí and Byrne was arrested, after which he moved to England to live with his grandfather and was later extradited back to Ireland in July 2024. He pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to distribution of child pornography and denied sending the images of children. In February 2025, Judge Martin Nolan sentenced him to three years' imprisonment with the last 12 months suspended on strict conditions, including Probation Service supervision.

A man in his 30s (some reports say 20s) was seriously assaulted, reportedly stabbed, at a residence in Father Murphy Park, Robertstown, County Kildare, at approximately 2:30am on Sunday 28 August 2022. Five people – Aaron Hannify, 24, Shane Byrne, 34, Gerard Hanafey, 53, Sandra Hanafey, 49, and Lisa Hanafey, 28 – were arrested and charged with assault. The victim was taken to Tallaght University Hospital where he remains in serious but stable condition. The five appeared before a special sitting of Naas District Court on 30 August 2022, where bail conditions were set and the matter was adjourned to 16 November for DPP directions.
