latest first- WRC orders employer to pay painter-decorator €1,645 in unpaid wages Assault; unpaid wages (Payment of Wages Act 1991)
Shadeem Khan, a painter-decorator, said he was assaulted by his former employer, VS Painting and Decorating Solutions, when he went to collect €1,645 in unpaid wages for eight and a half days' work over Christmas 2021. He had started working for the firm in November 2021 at an agreed rate of €120 a day plus a €20 petrol allowance, with time-and-a-half on Sundays. Khan reported the assault to An Garda Síochána, who noted the incident and advised him to pursue a civil remedy, so no criminal proceedings followed. At a Workplace Relations Commission hearing on 9 December 2022, adjudicating officer Michael MacNamee ordered the employer, who did not appear, to pay Khan €1,645 subject to tax and statutory deductions.
