  Conor Greaney, a man aged 27, was sentenced at Cork Circuit Criminal Court in March 2026 to five and a half years' imprisonment, with the last six months suspended, after pleading guilty to assault causing harm to Selina Regazzoli, a woman aged 35. Greaney allegedly struck Regazzoli in the face in an unprovoked attack outside the GPO on Oliver Plunkett Street in Cork city centre on 7 March 2024, causing her to fall and dislocate and fracture her right ankle. He presented himself at Bridewell Garda station the following day, was charged, and was remanded in custody at Cork District Court on 9 March 2024. Greaney told gardaí the assault was a case of mistaken identity, claiming he had intended to target a woman who had been trolling his partner online.
