• Inquests open into Rathfarnham murders as accused dies before trial Murder · Co. Dublin

Seema Banu, 37, an Indian woman, and her children Asfira Riza, 11, and Faizan Syed, 6, were found dead on 28 October 2020 at their home in Llewellyn Court, Rathfarnham, Dublin, having been strangled. Her husband, Sameer Syed, 38, an Indian man of Grosvenor Lodge, Rathmines, was arrested at the end of November 2020 and charged with three counts of murder at Dun Laoghaire District Court. He was due to stand trial at the Central Criminal Court the following week but was found dead in his cell at Midlands Prison, Portlaoise, on 9 June 2022, and the court formally closed the criminal file. The latest development is that inquests into the three deaths were scheduled for and heard on 30 March 2023, while a Garda and prison investigation into Syed's death continues.
