On March 17, 2024, at about 9.15pm, gardaí on duty near the Abbey Roundabout in Boyle, Co Roscommon, reportedly observed a car being driven on the wrong side of the road. After a chase of about a mile and a half, the driver, 31-year-old Sebastian Francis of Boyle, was arrested at the scene and later gave a breath specimen. He was charged with drink driving, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and failing to produce a driving licence. On December 18, 2025, at Carrick-on-Shannon District Court, he was convicted on the drink-driving charge, fined €200 and disqualified from driving for two years.
