  Private Seán Rooney, 24, an UN peacekeeper from Co Donegal, was killed when his convoy was shot at near Al-Aqbiya, southern Lebanon, on 14 December 2022, and three others were injured. Suspects were identified by late December 2022, and a main suspect was held by Lebanese authorities after being allegedly handed over by Hezbollah. Five men linked to Hezbollah were charged by Lebanon's military tribunal on 3 June 2023. Tanaiste Micheál Martin said justice must be done over the killing.

• Man admitted phone theft in Donegal Town, sentencing adjourned Theft · Co. Donegal

  A Samsung Galaxy A50 phone worth €400 was stolen from Apache Pizza in the Diamond, Donegal Town, on 4 September 2021, after a woman left it on the counter while socialising. Sean Rooney, 44, a man from Ballyshannon, was identified on CCTV taking the phone and was later charged with theft. At Donegal District Court on 22 November 2021, Rooney admitted the offence, saying he was drunk and that another man had thrown the phone into a river in Ballyshannon. Judge Murphy adjourned the matter to 24 January to allow Rooney time to raise money to cover the cost of the phone.
