  Shane Ryan Casey, a 30-year-old man from Limerick city, pleaded guilty on 27 April 2025 to threatening to kill Garda Sean O'Connor at Limerick Courthouse on 21 February 2024. The threat was made while the garda was giving evidence in a criminal trial, during which Casey made a throat-slitting motion and mouthed the word dead. Casey, who has 170 previous convictions, was sentenced by Judge Fiona O'Sullivan to two years in prison on 19 June 2025, to be served consecutively to a three-year term imposed in 2024. The garda declined to make a victim impact statement.
