Sean Kinneavy, 74, of Bóthar Buí, Carraroe, Co Galway, was convicted by a jury at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin of 47 counts of sexual assault and two counts of rape using an object against a girl who was aged 10 to 15 at the time. The offending took place on dates between January 2013 and June 2018 at locations in Co Dublin and Co Galway, and Kinneavy was a regular visitor to the girl's family home in Dublin. The abuse came to light in 2020 when the girl's mother found a note referring to it, and gardaí interviewed the girl in early 2021 and Kinneavy in June 2021. Mr Justice David Keane sentenced Kinneavy to nine years for rape and a concurrent eight years for sexual assault, backdated to November 2024, and directed him to pay €38,000 in compensation. The latest development is the sentencing on 24 February 2025, and Kinneavy does not accept the verdicts and maintains his innocence.
