On 2 January 2021, a 16-year-old was stabbed 14 times in a premeditated attack at Tymon Lane in Tallaght, Dublin, after being lured there through social media. Sean Johnston (22) and a co-accused, who was 20 at sentencing and cannot be named for legal reasons, were both initially charged with attempted murder, but the State accepted their guilty pleas to lesser charges and dropped those counts. On 6 November 2023 at the Central Criminal Court, Mr Justice Tony Hunt sentenced Johnston to 12 years with the final four suspended and the co-accused to five and a half years with the final two and a half suspended, a combined 13 and a half years in jail.
