Sean Bergin, 21, of Mountrath, was charged with theft from two properties in Portlaoise on 17 March 2022, taking sockets, dumbells and four bottles of alcohol from one house and a drill and tin of paint from another. The stolen property was recovered and Bergin made full admissions at Portlaoise district court. His defence raised intoxication and mental health issues, noting he had been ejected from his home due to alcohol and drugs problems. Judge Miriam Walsh adjourned the case to 14 July 2022 for a probation report.
